Monday 17 April 2010

The first session for the Spring term focuses on making marbled paper and fabric which will then be used to create either a simple paper covered box, or a more complicated stitched fabric box.

Two Italian techniques will also be demonstrated:

- Bargello - a needlepoint design also known as Flame Stitch which can resemble a marbled effect

- Trapunto and Italian Corded Quilting - Trapunto is a quilted and stuffed technique which produces raised areas, stuffed from the back, adding interest to a design.  The latter is a corded technique where quilting wool is drawn through the stitched parallel lines of a design.  Both use two layers of fabric and a lustrous top fabric such as silk produces the best results.

A requirements list will be sent out very soon to all those who are interested.

Spring Flowers

A little bit of sunshine and out came all the snowdrops in the churchyard at Pannal.

Have you looked inside a snowdrop
And seen the beauty there?
Like a mini rose,
Delicate beyond compare.

            God's exquisite handiwork,
            So perfect and so neat.
            In every detail small,
            Intricate and totally complete.

They speak of God's love and care,
A sign that life goes on.
                       For suddently they're everywhere,
                       Maybe winter time has gone.

Carrickmacross hellebore

Finally finished my Carrickmacross hellebore, not really sure what to do with it now! Am I supposed to cut out all the fabric btw or leave it as it is? I like the border someone has put on theirs :)

MARCH

This is just one of the sketchbooks/visual diaries created by a member of the Group. Art and design work, poetry, and examples of stitchery have been slowly added over the months to create a wonderful collection of items associated with Pannal Church and the Textile Group.

Carrickmacross was not the easiest technique to master, however, the sample above shows what can be achieved with perseverance.
A combination of stumpwork and goldwork techniques were used to form this lovely flower.

Finally, another bird .... this time a beautiful goldfinch.
